SIENA Networking Session at ICT2010, 27/09/2010

Distributed Computing, which encompasses technologies like clouds, grids and Web 2.0, is key to driving forward innovation in enterprise, government and research. With interoperable standards in place end-user communities would have at their disposal more resources, freedom of choice and reduced vendor lock-in. Interoperability would enable e-Infrastructure providers to ensure the easier deployment and management of software distributions.

OGF.eeig, co-founded by Trust-IT (UK) and Innotec (Italy), leads the technical co-ordination of SIENA, which stands for Standards and Interoperability for e-Infrastructures Implementation Initiative  and  is funded under the European Commission's 7th Framework Programme. SIENA plays a crucial role in pushing forward interoperability standards with European priorities firmly in mind.

In synergy with another European project dedicated to future internet research, SIENA is co-hosting a Networking Session at ICT2010, Europe's largest event on Information & Communitication Technologies (ICT) on Monday 27 September at the Expo Brussels. The Session, entitled Standards for e-Infrastructures & Future Internet Research in Room T009 from 14:00-15:30 CEST, co-hosted by SIENA, MyFIRE and MOSQUITO.

The Session is aimed at fostering closer interaction between future internet research and standardisation communities as essential to driving forward  standards development for Distributed Computing and for the digital age that is fast approaching. The session looks at current challenges surrounding grids, clouds and future internet research by bringing to the table major stakeholders from the arena of e-Infrastructures & Future Internet Research, as well as standard  and policy bodies to chart a course for Europe to act as a forerunner in the development and implementation of interoperability standards.
