The Universidade Federal Fluminense concentrates its efforts in three areas: education, research and community services. UFF is the sixth largest public university in Brazil and offers free education to around 36,000 undergraduate and 12,000 graduate students and employs 7.000 academic and technical staff, covering all the major subject areas in Science, Engineering, Social Sciences and Humanities, and Medical Sciences.
The Institute of Computation (Instituto de Computação), IC/UFF, has 60 academic staff, some 700 undergraduate and 200 graduate students.
