RDA and global Data and Computing e-Infrastructure challenges event

Taking place in Rome, Italy on 11th & 12th December 2014 within the framework of the Italian Presidency of the European Union, this event is organised by the Italian National Research Council, together with the European Commission - DG CONNECT, Research Data Alliance (RDA) Europe, Italian Ministry of Education, Universities and Research (MIUR), Italian Supercomputing Center (CINECA), and Italian National Institute for Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV).

The event will focus on how synergies between e-Infrastructures and the development of European Research Infrastructures (ESFRI roadmap) and other major initiatives with high potential impact on research and innovation can be strengthened. This implies good coordination in Europe and a special emphasis on the importance of long term sustainable support to basic services for research and education communities as well as the consolidation of global cooperation on Research Data and Computing infrastructures in the above contexts.

Promoting innovation in science: impact on growth and jobs, Opening science to society: education, training and communication and enabling the integration of institutional, regional and national research capacity including developing efficient and sustainable mechanisms for implementing research infrastructures and e-infrastructures are all topics that will be addressed in the agenda in Rome.

With the participation by worldwide experts on the topics coming from the five continents, the overarching objective of the event is to present to all relevant stakeholders, including national and international funders and policy makers, a reflection document addressing key issues to ensure that data and computing infrastructures can contribute to tackle the advent of data-driven science and innovation contributing to solve the pressing socio-economic challenges which threatened the sustainability and quality of life in our planet.
