On 15 March 2011 Robert Madelin, Director-General, DG Information Society and Media of the European Commission opened Cloudscape III with a Call to Action in support of the EC's Cloud computing strategy with emphasis on the role of our SIENA initiative: “the potential benefits of cloud computing in business, public services and scientific research are widely recognised. Efforts like the SIENA standardisation roadmap will be very useful in making these benefits materialise”.

Registration is open for Cloudscape III, 15-16 March in Brussels, a premier event exploring multiple perspectives that will shape the landscape in the years ahead. Places are limited by venue capacity, so early registration is highly recommended. Registration covers two-days of presentations and Round Tables led by international experts, developers and users, a Welcome Cocktail sponsored by Microsoft Research with demos, networking lunches and coffee breaks, along with a special set of resources for attendees.

The European project, DL.org, is delighted to announce a half-day tutorial on Digital Libraries: Foundations & Interoperability during the Extended Semantic Web Conference, 29 May-2 June 2011 in Heraklion, Crete. Tutorial attendees will come away with both a conceptual framework and real-world examples in the Digital Library space.

Global data infrastructures are all about empowering scientists and open up new frontiers for cross-disciplinary research to tackle the grand global challenges.

Organised by the Digital Communications and the Digital Systems Knowledge Transfer Networks in partnership with Newcastle University, this half-day workshop takes place in Newcastle on 25 October. 

Distributed Computing, which encompasses technologies like clouds, grids and Web 2.0, is key to driving forward innovation in enterprise, government and research. With interoperable standards in place end-user communities would have at their disposal more resources, freedom of choice and reduced vendor lock-in. Interoperability would enable e-Infrastructure providers to ensure the easier deployment and management of software distributions.

Trust-IT is supporting the world's largest educational and scientific computing society - the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) at ICT2010, running 27-29 September at Brussels Expo, where 6000 attendants are about to descend over the next three days. ACM activities include the ACM Europe Exhibition Stand in Zone Zone E: Information Booths (Stand number: E06), open to visitors over the three days. The Stand highlighs the key role of ACM and ACM Europe not only in computer Science but also computer science education as the field faces new challenges in the digital age.

Launched just six months ago, Microsoft's Cloud Computing platform, Window's Azure, has attracted thousands of users for its scalable computing power and storage, as well as a number of other on-line services hosted on Microsoft data centres.

Mytilene, Lesvos - Greece hosts a half-day event on Tuesday 6 July to present a pilot demo for civil protection and emergencies with special emphais on tackling wildfires. The event is marks the final stage of a joint partnership between the University of the Aegean, the University of Athens and Microsoft Research.

Over two hundred people joined staff at Trust-IT and Innotec for the opening of their new offices on the 17-18 September 2009. For the occasion, an array of exquisite paintings from the Haitian painter Jacqueline Nesti Joseph and her husband Victor Nesti were on show. The artist attended the opening to discuss her paintings to all those interested.
