€5.3 million tender for Hybrid Cloud Platform serving science launched today

Cloud service providers have until 19th September 2016 to apply to the just released Helix Nebula – The Science Cloud’s pre-commercial procurement tender. The tender aims at establishing a European Hybrid Cloud Platform to support the deployment of high-performance computing and big-data capabilities for scientific research. 
 
The new platform is expected to address the many challenges that require a combination of services at the Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) level including Compute and Storage, Network Connectivity and Federated Identity Management and Service Payment Models.
 
Tenderers will need to take into account all the performance, security and management aspects of a hybrid cloud infrastructures, such as technical standards, interoperability, portability, as well as building trust and confidence in cloud computing services. 
 
Participation in the tendering procedure is open on equal terms to all types of economic operators from any country in the world, regardless of their geographic location, size or governance structure. However, a minimum of 50 % of the contracted R&D services must be performed in the EU Member States or countries associated to the European Union Framework Programme HORIZON 2020.
