Calling European Early Career Data Scientists: Apply For A Travel Grant To Barcelona For April 2017

RDA Ninth Plenary Travel Grant
“As a 4th year medical student in the UK, the path that lead me to the Research Data Alliance (RDA) plenary was different to many of the other early career program participants. I have no background in IT, bioinformatics or programming, but as a medical researcher I care passionately about how research data is analysed, shared and published”.

The Research Data Alliance (RDA) is an organization driven by the goal to remove barriers to data sharing. The RDA community consists of data scientists, librarians, computer scientists, and domain scientists who work together in self-formed Working Groups and Interest Groups – which can be initiated by any RDA member -  to analyse and explore a variety of technical and social challenges of data sharing.

The RDA Plenaries are working meetings held every six months in different places around the world focused on helping move the community forward in creating tangible deliverables that improve data sharing across disciplines, technologies, and countries. The 9th RDA Plenary Meeting, co-organised by the Barcelona Supercomputing Center and taking place in Barcelona on 5-7 April 2017, will be a unique opportunity to discuss about the topic of “Data Infrastructures for Open Science”.

In occasion of the upcoming Plenary, RDA Europe is offering a travel grant: if you are a European Early Career Researcher & Scientist currently engaged in Bachelor, Masters, PhD or Post Doc studies related to tackling the challenges around research data management and your study is conducted in a higher education or research institution based in Europe, then you should apply for the RDA Europe early Career Programme.

In its 7th edition, the aim of this programme is to introduce early career researchers & scientists affiliated to a European organization to RDA, highlight what data scientists / practitioners are doing.

Successful applicants are
  • invited to display a poster summarising their studies and areas of interest during the plenary meeting
  • assigned a working group for which they are requested to attend the working meeting at the Plenary meeting
  • asked to take notes and provide a summary of the meeting for internal use by the group members
