On 18 September 2017, the recently launched Coordination & Support Action Global5G.org will host a 5G Health Session during the IEEE 5G Summit in Helsinki (Finland) as part of the Helsinki5GWeek. With an exceptional line-up of experts from the health Industry, Telecom and Standardisation areas, this is the first in a series of events that will help shape future efforts to ensure 5G transforms health and care services that are patient-centric, standardised and interoperable while addressing concerns around privacy, security and trust.
Currently, the healthcare industry is the biggest and fastest growing industry in the world with special requirements but, despite the digital revolution being in full blast in almost every aspect of our lives and market segments, the anticipated impact in healthcare is yet to be seen and outcomes of digital health have not yet gone mainstream.
The session therefore aims to contribute to breaking down barriers to positive transformation within the industry as part of “The Road to 5G and Standardisation for Health and Care Services” (see agenda here).

The upcoming Global5G.org session will invite a group of sector-specific and standards experts to identify the opportunities 5G can bring to healthcare models. Experts will zoom-in on the emerging 5G/IoT technologies, with special emphasis on the impact of 5G on IEEE standard protocols and frameworks, as well as discussing the potential for the seamless flow of health, medical and fitness data within health and care services.
The event will also help define the benefits of emerging 5G/IoT technologies for the healthcare system; global and national initiatives, testbeds and trials; standardisation with a special focus on IEEE and ethical and regulatory challenges, safety, security, confidentiality and privacy.
