HSbooster.eu - The new EU Standardisation Booster helping Research and Innovation projects to valorise their results and increase impact

12 Apr 2022

Pisa, 12 April 2022 – The brand-new European Standardisation booster called HSbooster.eu has launched this month. It will provide expert services to Research and Innovation (R&I) projects to help them increase uptake and impact of results by contributing to the creation or revision of standards.

Standards are at the core of a resilient European single market enabling companies to demonstrate compliance to EU regulations, creating a level playing field for businesses and increasing consumer confidence.

Standards also play an important role in the valorisation of R&I results. When successfully implemented they can spur innovation by diffusing knowledge. This can ensure the uptake and wiser use of new technologies and inventions, guaranteeing interoperability and compatibility, providing quality and safety levels, or by codifying knowledge in clear and specific ways.

Contributing to standards is often an objective of R&I projects. However, actually navigating the path to engage with standardisation working groups and technical committees can be complex and costly. This is where HSbooster.eu comes in. Funded by the European Commission’s Horizon Europe Programme, HSbooster.eu will provide consultancy services to guide and support beneficiaries and consortia of R&I projects to make sure they take the right strategic approach and contribute efficiently to the standardisation process.

The Standardisation Booster is a new service for EU research projects that want to ensure that their results create real impact by contributing to standards development. If you think your project, be it in the field related to Green Deal, medicines production, critical raw materials, climate resilience, transport, security or data spaces, could provide valuable input to standard development, the Booster will help you transform your results into marketable solutions.

Built on an experienced and strong consortium with expertise in the standardisation field and of delivering EC booster services, HSbooster.eu is already recruiting 250 Standardisation Experts from national, European and international Standardisation Organisations who will provide one-on-one guidance and support to projects.

HSbooster.eu will provide the platform and resources for standardisation experts in Europe to advise 1,000 Horizon Europe and H2020 projects on how best their research results can lead to the revision or creation of standards. Our services will help projects assess the standardisation readiness of their results and match them up with experts in the field who can guide them on how their results can feed into standardisation working groups or technical committees.

Project coordinator Nicholas Ferguson from COMMpla

The project will tackle head-on the urgencies outlined in the EU Standardisation Strategy by running a series of open calls from June 2022. Projects will be able to apply for direct expert support which can valorise their project results and increase their impact.

With standardisation embedded in the EU single market and an essential ingredient of industrial competitiveness, HSbooster.eu can support European standardisation experts and projects to play their part in meeting the objectives of the EU Standardisation Strategy to make the EU standardisation system more functional, agile and effective.
