Politecnico di Milano (POLIMI) is one of the Technical Universities in Italy. It was established in 1863 and is ranked as one of the most outstanding European universities in Engineering, Architecture and Industrial Design. POLIMI participates in this project through members of Dipartimento di Elettronica, Informazione e Bioingegneria (DEIB), with a multi-disciplinary group belonging specifically to the DEpendable Evolvable Pervasive Software Engineering (DEEP-SE), Performance Evaluation, and Information Systems groups. Within EUBra-BIGSEA, POLIMI leads the development of optimization-based policies and performance models for Big Data applications. The aim is to develop smart policies for vertical and horizontal elastic adjustment of cloud resources to support the execution of complex Big Data and high performance computing applications providing a priori performance guarantees. POLIMI also leads the activities for definition of algorithm for monitoring and assessing the data quality level of Big Data. Data Quality awareness allows users to understand the reliability of the considered data sets and thus to better design data analysis methods. Finally, POLIMI will leverage its participation to OASIS to influence the TOSCA standard bringing specific requirements for run time cloud infrastructure adaptation and Big Data application cloud support. POLIMI through its the participation to EUBra-BIGSEA will consolidate its long term collaboration with UFMG. Moreover, Polimi aims at acquiring new collaborative R&D and innovation projects and increasing the international recognition of the research group by providing open source tools. Polimi will reuse also the results of EUBra-BIGSEA in teaching courses at the Master level and within the PhD program. On the consultancy activities side, Polimi is interested in identifying new technology transfer initiatives and training opportunities also in cooperation with its IT centre of excellence CEFRIEL. Polimi commercial and consulting goals are to: Increase consulting opportunities also through the open source tools developed within the EUBra-BIGSEA project, exploiting a dual licensing path. Use EUBra-BIGSEA results in courses offered to companies in the Milan area and Lombardy region. Gain high visibility by participating to standardization initiatives (in particular to OASIS TOSCA).
