Blue-Cloud kick-off meeting video

The H2020 flagship project Blue-Cloud officially set sail from Pisa at the beginning of October, with a successful 3-day meeting involving representatives from the 20 partner organisations. This thematic cloud devoted to marine research and the blue economy will represent a fundamental contribution to the transnational implementation of the European Open Science Cloud.

Hear directly from some of the partners in this video created by Trust-IT, as they describe the features and long-term mission of the initiative. "The Blue-Cloud project aims to pilot a cyber platform bringing together and providing assets to multidisciplinary data, analytical tools, and computing resources." explained the Blue-Cloud coordinator Sara Garavelli (Trust-IT). According to Pasquale Pagano, from the National Research Council of Italy (CNR-ISTI), "Blue-Cloud will support open science adoption by making these practices an integral part of the features that scientists and researchers will exploit through the Virtual Research Environments."

Dr. Kate Larkin, from Seascape Belgium, highlighted the Blue-Cloud plan to co-design a community-oriented roadmap for the future development of the project. Dick Schaap, the Blue-Cloud Technical coordinator from MARIS Netherlands, stressed the focus on the importance and foreseen impact of making resources and infrastructures interoperable, as this will greatly facilitate access for the users. According to Silvana Muscella, CEO at Trust-IT Services, preserving cultural and marine heritage is key for future generations.
